Planetary geophysics – the study of the planets, including earth

Planetary geophysics is the study of the earth’s core, the mantle and crust, to the outposts of our solar system and beyond.

Planetary Geophysics

We begin with our own planet and studying earthquakes and their formations or the lack of movement in some areas where there is so much movement in other areas of the world. By studying this, we can determine why one area of the planet tends to have more earth quakes more than another area and what might prevent them in the future, saving lives and countless amounts of money in damages.

The planetary geophysics studies the earth down to its core and makes discoveries about the natural gases and lava and other items buried beneath the surface of the earth that can one day be helpful to us.

The planetary geophysics includes the study of other planets such as Mars and Saturn and their various conditions verse our own atmosphere and conditions. There is also the terrestrial geophysics or studies – the search for other beings on other planets. And the study of remote environmental changes.

There are many schools and centers where one can go and study planetary geophysics and graduate with a degree in planetary geophysics. Jobs in the planetary geophysics include those with the space program, studying the planets for activity and changes in their makeup. Or helping to launch the space ships and helping to gather and catalog what they bring back with them.

Another job in the planetary geophysics is the study of our planet, earth. This could take on a wide range of jobs including a seismologist, one who studies earthquakes; or someone who helps with environmental and global warming issues such as the arctic melting. Without our planet, we would have no other planets to look at and study so beginning with our planet might be a good place to start.

However, many people believe that it might be too late for planet earth and that we should be studying other planets incase we can no longer live on this planet. Where would we go? This is a question a planetary geophysicists could answer for us. There is so much research to be done by planetary geophysicists and scientists that can work with the planets and don’t forget the moon and sun for they are planets as well.

Scientists are studying the sun and moons impact on our planet and that of other planets. We know that the sun plays a major role in our everyday lives, but what about the moon? What role does it play in the average person’s life on planet earth? Planetary geophysicists study and discuss these and many other questions so that we may one day live in space or on the moon if we have done too much damage to planet earth.

Which, some say we already have with global warming and the pollution of many factories and just everyday carbon emissions from people doing everyday things like driving.

Or the massive landfills that will soon need to be made bigger because no one is recycling, which is so important today.
