Jobs with Geophysics Breaking New Ground and New Technologies

Have you ever wanted to become a geophysicist?  Do you know what a geophysicist is?  There are many jobs with geophysics that are fun, exciting, and profitable.  A geophysicist is someone who studies the earth.  They used seismic methods, electrical fields, and magnetic fields to calculate the location of oil, metals, and gems. 

Planetary Geophysics

A geophysicist will spend most of their time on computers studying various features of the earth and the rest of their time outside looking at ways to put the models of the earth onto computers so that a theory can be proved or disproved.  These jobs and the people who work them study the internal structure in the evolution of the earth.  They study earthquakes, the ocean, and other physical features using specific methods to their discipline.

If you want to be a geophysicist and find jobs with geophysics you need to have a lot of math and science classes while you go to high school.  You may want to take earth science focused classes which can and should include geography, geology, and other sciences.  When you get into college you will need a heavy background in the sciences and mathematics, geology, and at the same time you need to also take physics classes and other higher science classes. 

If you have more physics in your background, you will have a easier time in graduate school. The physics classes will give you more experience in computer science and the computer's software programs which be will be essential in your new job.

While you are in college you must maintain a strong GPA and at the same time you need to find field experiences that deal with geophysics.  You can find internships or other venues that will offer you experience in the field and at the same time give you a sound resume when it's time to look for jobs with geophysics. 

Local field trips or other academically or governmentally sponsored activities can be added to your resume. Anything done with the  US geological survey department is an invaluable addition to any job application.  You can apply for summer jobs that deal with geophysics and some of these may even be paid jobs.

There are many government and academic agencies that offer jobs with geophysics that can not only improve your resume academically but also our very interesting.  The oil industry is actively recruiting geophysicist and starting salaries usually vary from 30,000 to 50,000 a year. 

Once you have a lot of experience in the science. you can take on management positions or become a  project head and make upwards to $100,000 a year.  Jobs and geophysics are attainable but it takes a lot of work both academically and physically.  You must be committed to providing top-notch work to your employers, because the existence of the company depends on your ability to find, develop strategies for mining, and extract the resource in which you are commissioned to find.

Geophysics is a demanding job, but a job that will yield satisfaction and excitement.
