Ground penetrating radar to identify underground pools
With the advent of technology, locating the objects below the surface of the earth is made simple and there are
various methods of identifying the underground water content.
One method is by sending out impulses to the underground using devices. When these impulses reach the surface of
underground objects, they will reflect the impulses back to the surface of the earth.
This is absorbed by the objects and this will then be analyzed with the help of various measurements and the
presence is ensured. One of the devices working in this manner is known as Ground penetrating radars or GDR.
Ground penetrating radars are used in geophysics to detect the presence of objects in the subsurface with the
help of radar pulses.
This works with the help of microwaves of radio spectrum and uses the signals reflected from the underground
object to detect the location.
This finds a great number of applications in earth sciences, archeology, environmental remediation etc. this can
be used in all categories of media including rock, soil, fresh water etc. to detect any change in the structure and
presence of voids, cracks etc.
This method is used in the identification of pools present in the underground below earth’s surface.
These radars can easily identify the location of water tables and can identify the location of underground water
contents without the need to excavate by going to the underground.
The most important aspect of a study in this way is that there are no harmful radiations or other dangerous effects
when the presence of water is identified in this way with the help of GDR.
They send in radar impulses, which when reaches the underground pool will be reflected back and this is put to
further analysis and thus the location of water below the surface is identified.
A thorough analysis with the help of GDR will help to evaluate the quality of water in the underground pool.
Since water might be contaminated due to the occurrence of various chemicals, a proper examination of this
quality is needed to ensure that no damage or hazard is expected with the presence of chemicals in the underground
pool water.
GDR can easily recognize the difference in density of materials even if they are present in the underground.
They will be able to detect the presence of water in soil and this property is made use of in the detection of
underground pools.
There are some limitations to the device up to which it can identify the underground objects.
This limitation never hinders the performance of GDR in any way. The penetrating power of GDR is used in
detecting the location of underground water contents. This is not easy with any other devices of similar kind.
Contractors and other engineers are making use of this technique in identifying the presence of underground
pools.
In many environmental research and related areas, in the study of water and soil, this is the main method by
which the presence of water below the surface of earth is understood.
