Geophysics versus
Physics
When people talk about geophysics they are sometimes
confused with the discipline of physics. Geophysics is
a branch of Earth science. These scientists
study the Earth by quantitative physical methods and use seismic,
electrical, magnetic, and radioactive methods to prove theories and
to actually do work in the field finding resources such as gold,
diamonds, and other treasures of the earth yield beneath the
soil.

People who work in the geophysics field work with oil
companies and other mining endeavors that produce resources for the
global economy. Geophysics is paid on a salary basis
for sometimes or giving a percentage of the
yield. It is an exciting end demanding
discipline that requires a massive amount of math and science
classes in high school and college.
Jobs in the geophysical realm include atmospheric
science. These scientists study the terrestrial
magnetism and atmospheric electricity. Their
studies may also cover climatology, meteorology, and radiant
energy. Other fields within geophysics include galcierology which
the strata’s of ice are studied from the melting glaciers,
hydrology in which the study of the surface and groundwater is made
important, and geodynamics which is a numerical study of the
error.
All of these fields require a firsthand knowledge of
sophisticated computer software and data processing
units. There is extensive fieldwork in which the
geophysicist will go outside in look at the stratus of Earth and
the composition of the soil to determine what kind of resources lie
underneath. The other half of the day is spent
taking those observation components into statistical models on the
computer to prove their observations mathematically.
The difference between geophysics and physics is that
physics is a science of matter and motion. By taking
space-time and other considerations of the physical world
works, physics uses experimental sciences and
general analysis of nature and how the Earth
interacts. Geophysics is one of the newer
sciences that have derived from physics while physics itself as one
of the oldest academic disciplines.
The combination of mathematics and philosophy are also an
important part of physics that contribute a theory or law into the
realm of the earth and its motions and workings. When you look at
physics versus geophysics you will find that the physics realm is
the base science in which geophysics derived from. Though they are
interchangeable in certain attributes, geophysics has evolved past
the normal physics discipline and can be considered a stand alone
science.
Geophysics can use the tools and the discoveries of
physicists in their endeavors to find natural resources within the
Earth's crust. This is because a physicist work is
derived from mathematical reasoning and put into technological
advantages. Work in physics as well as
geophysics is both experimental as well as theological
nature.
The real world applications of physics and geophysics to
the technology sector and other industries provide a basis for
every material thing that we as humans use every day. The study of
mass and motion compiled with the direct study of geophysical
activity within the earth’s crust of atmosphere as a combination
that can develop new approaches to environmental, ecological, and
physical problems that exist in the world today.
